Emberfall Saga

Emberfall Saga is a proper role-playing game that somehow fits comfortably on a phone. You build a party of four, wander a hand-drawn world, and take on turn-based battles that are quick but not brainless. The writing surprised me — the side characters have real personality instead of just being quest dispensers.

Combat leans on positioning and elemental matchups. You can autobattle the easy fights, which I appreciate, and then take manual control when things get tough. The difficulty curve is fair, though the mid-game does throw a couple of walls at you that expect you to actually think about your gear.

My one gripe is battery. Longer sessions warmed up my phone and ate through the charge, so it's more of a couch-and-charger game than a commute one. Otherwise it's a genuinely good RPG that doesn't nickel-and-dime your attention.
